Star Night, Springwater Conservation Area Campground, June 29th, 2012

Hazy clouds gave way to clear sky for the Springwater Conservation Area Campground star night, Friday, June 29th, 2012. Seven RASC London Centre members with 6 telescopes arrived between 8:00—9:00 p.m., including Steve Imrie, with his 20.3cm Orion SkyQuest Dobsonian; Bob Duff, with his 20.3cm Dobsonian; Everett Clark, with his 11.4cm Tasco Newtonian on its Super Polaris GEM mount; Harold Tutt, with his 80mm Stellarvue Night Hawk refractor on its Vixen alt-azimuth mount; Dave McCarter, with his 25.4cm Dobsonian; Keith Burr, with his 20.3cm Sky-Watcher Dobsonian; and Peter Jedicke.

Objects observed included the 3-day-past-first-quarter gibbous Moon, Saturn, Arcturus, M13, Mars and Albireo. As many as 40 visitors looked through the telescopes and expressed their delight and appreciation for the opportunity to view these celestial sights. Many returned for another look through the telescopes. The astronomers packed up their telescopes around 11:45 p.m. after a very enjoyable evening of showing people the stars.
