Our guest of honour will be Les Nagy, with a talk entitled “
A Canadian lost in the desert skies: my life in the best place for astronomy in the world.” This is the story of chasing the astronomy dream and the challenges it presented, along with the wonders and beauty. We hope to see you there in person, or join with you online.

Les Nagy has been interested in astronomy since 1971 and has been a member of the RASC Hamilton Center, off and on, since 1974. All of his self aware life he has loved sugaring the skies and astronomy to those who would listen, and even some who wouldn’t. He was the resident astronomer for the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation camp near St George and then travelled to Chile in 2009 to make videos for Discovery Channel on the big astronomy projects in Chile. In 2010 Les moved to Chile to start another life and moved back to Canada in 2018 with his wife who he met in Chile.

Our meeting will begin at 7:30pm. You can attend in person at the Cronyn Observatory on the Western campus, or join us via Zoom at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89015777788
(or use the Zoom app with meeting ID 89015777788 with no password)
Did you catch the spectacular aurora last Friday night? I hope so! Our Observing Chair Dale Armstrong posted a notice on our forum under the Late Breaking News section, so you would have gotten advance notice there. There are a number of fantastic images of the phenomenal light show from our members that have been posted on the forum as well, so check them out!
As you plan out your summer schedule, please take notice that our club’s Annual Banquet for 2024 will be held on July 19th to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9’s impacts on Jupiter. At our banquet, Steve Gauthier will present the facts and figures, and Peter Jedicke will share reminiscences of the event. More details to come as we approach the event. Keep an eye on the forum post under the Club Announcements section.
I would also like to share our Centre’s annual report that your executive recently prepared and sent to the RASC National Office on your behalf. It is a summary of our activities in 2023, and worth a look.
