March 21, 2025 Meeting – Ryan Fraser – Riding the light fantastic on the solar winds

Aurora are amongst the most spectacular interactions of space and earth. Join us for a talk on the art
and science of Aurora photography, with an emphasis on where and when to set yourself up for success
in the area around London. Ryan will discuss useful apps, strategies for finding the perfect spot, and
what kind of camera gear he uses to produce stills and timelapses.

Our meeting will begin at 7:30pm. You can attend in person at the Cronyn Observatory on the Western campus, or join us via Zoom at:

Ryan Fraser is an award-winning astrophotographer, whose work has been featured in print in a variety of
magazines and journals, and national broadcast by CTV News. He was the winner of the RASC 150
anniversary Imaging the Skies national competition, and has several of his pictures in the 5th edition of
Nightscape. He’s been a prize winner in 8 of the last 9 Starfest Imaging salons he competed in, and was
also been a judge for the contest in 2019. He is a frequent outreach speaker for a variety of nature
organizations on the topic of astronomy and astrophotography.

Thanks to the Great Lakes region lack of clear skies, he spends even more time during daylight hours
photographing birds, bugs and other wildlife. You can find his work on Facebook under the page “Ryan
Fraser Nature Photography”

When not imaging and taking photos out in nature, Ryan is the author of Driven By Purpose: 32
Remarkable Stories about Growing your Wealth and Leaving a Transformational Legacy
(www.drivenbypurpose.ca), published by Milner and Associates. He is also the CEO of Quiet Legacy
Planning Group Ltd, a London, Ontario based firm that specializes in the intersection of Financial
Planning and Philanthropy. Ryan has been involved planning work that has resulted in over $32 million
in gifts to charities over the last decade. Unsurprisingly, his office is filled with his images of birds,
aurorae, galaxies and nebulae.
