Nicole Mortillaro is an amateur astronomer, editor of the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, and author of several books including RASC’s annual Night Sky Almanac. She first fell in love with the cosmos after seeing images of Saturn sent back by the Voyager probes. She works as a senior science reporter at CBC, and in 2021, she won the Kavli Science Journalism Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science for a Quirks and Quarks audio special on the history and future of Black people in science.
Nicole will give a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into producing the Journal and the annual Almanac, as well as what it’s like to be a national science reporter.
Our meeting is on June 21, 2024 and will begin at 7:30pm. You can attend in person at the Cronyn Observatory on the Western campus, or join us via Zoom at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89015777788
