Meteor Storm Alert - November 21-22, 2019

Post by darmstrong » November 16th, 2019, 4:00 am

The Alpha Monocerotids meteor shower experiences infrequent meteor storms ranging in intensity from 400 to 1000 meteors per hour. Previous storms occurred in: 1925, 1935, 1985, and 1995. It is expected we will see another storm starting sometime just after 11:15 PM EST on November 21, and lasting anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes.

Meteors are expected at an hourly rate of 400 per hour, possibly as high as 1000 per hour.

This qualifies as an exceptional, once-in-a-lifetime event.

If it is a clear night, make sure you are outside (if possible somewhere dark) when this is supposed to happen.

Well guess I'll be bringing in the dinosaurs. Thanks for the heads up.
