Ilderton Library Star Party 2017

Post by DaveMcCarter » March 31st, 2017, 10:04 pm

London Centre will host a Star Party for the users of the Ilderton Library on May 4th, starting at 20:00. Rain date is the next evening, May 5th.

We will set up in the field north of the Library, where we have been for the past few years.

Please drag out that under utilized telescope and dust off your eyepieces, and give a keen child their first view through a real scope!

Hi Dave,

it looks to be fun. I am in, with two telescopes and one mount.

The Forecast for this coming Thursday and Friday for the Ilderton Library Star Party is "Rain, Rainy, Cloud, Windy, Showers, Cool, Damp, Drizzely" and other sundry expressions of anti astronomy bad weather behaviour.

I have discussed the poor prospects with the Ilderton Library staff, and we have agreed to postpone the star night to Friday, May 12th, starting at 19:30, if it is moderately clear.

Skies are CLEARING from the west, so a decent night should be available for the Star Party at Ilderton Library This Evening.

I will be setting up about 19:30 EDT, and as the moon rises late, I'll scan the skies to see if I can pick up Jupiter before sunset.

Hope to see someone else there.

Seven families turned up at the Ilderton Library and enjoyed views of Jupiter, counting three moons in a precise row, and looking for the deminishing GRS. I searched for comet Johnston, but the hazy skies and bright nearby lights made it difficult to see. Lots of "Ask the Astronomer" questions were asked and answered. The hot chocolate and popcorn provided by the Library was enjoyed and everyone had a great time.
