Hi everyone,
As our president, Craig Levine, alluded to at the last monthly meeting we are replacing August’s meeting at Cronyn with a private BBQ/potluck at our dark sky/observing site for members. I repeat, there will be no August meeting at Cronyn!
This will be a club event hosted at our Dark Sky Observing Site on the evening of Friday August 15th, where we hope to start gathering at 5:30-6:00pm.
We will start with social time and a potluck meal before sunset and hope for clear skies for some potential observing later in the evening. It’s also possible to see the trailing end of the Perseid meteor shower, although the peak will have been on the 12th-13th. This will be our meeting for the month of August, but there won’t be a Guest of Honour nor a lecture. Your guests are welcome, but not the general public. (Please don’t post detailed information about this event on social media.)
The gate will be unlocked, allowing members to remove the pin and enter the park area with their vehicles but please CLOSE the gate behind you and replace the pin. Do NOT lock the gate however, to allow other members to pass. Remember, this can be a busy place, with many pedestrians and, often, off-leash dogs. Drive slowly and with great care as you make your way to the pad.

Have a look at the report given by Dale about our last gathering there. That evening we were swamped with mosquitoes and, eventually, rain. I’d say this year is quite a different story with all the hot dry weather, but bringing some bug spray is a great idea!
